OLD SHOWERHEAD

Whether your shower head is a simple spout (attached to a hose) or a hose shower head with seven different spray settings, it still plays a pretty important role in your bathroom's plumbing. However, this device can fill with dirt and grime over time and therefore needs to be cleaned thoroughly. And since you can't really throw your shower head in the washing machine, here's how to clean it perfectly.

Why You Need to Clean Your Old Showerhead

Over time, particles, sediment, or bacteria in your water can attach to your showerhead. Think about it: every time you turn on the water, all those particles can get into your head and body - talk about it, yuck!

Another main reason why you need to clean this unit is that all of that debris can lead to lower water pressure. By cleaning your showerhead regularly, you can ensure better water flow that isn't blocked by stuck-on debris.

Cleaning Your Showerhead

Gather Your Tools

For this simple task, you will need a plastic bag (such as a food storage bag), white vinegar, a rubber band, and a soft-bristled brush, such as a brush and  an old toothbrush.

Fill and Secure the Bag

Pour the white vinegar into the plastic bag, leaving a few inches of space at the top - you don't want it to be so full that vinegar spills out. Next, place the bag over your showerhead so that the faucet is completely submerged in the liquid. Then attach the bag to the shower head with a rubber band.

Wait a Bit

Allow the faucet to soak in the vinegar for a few hours, or even overnight if the faucet is particularly dirty. However, if your shower head has a nickel, brass, or gold finish, remove the bag after about 30 minutes to avoid damaging the finish.

Brush Away Grime

Once you've removed the vinegar, use the brush to gently scrub away any residue for a perfectly clean, smooth-flowing shower head.
